Second Purchase Update: We Picked Up a Lot More Than Expected

Second Purchase Update: Scaling Positions & Expanding the Portfolio
We’ve been steadily adding to the Rarerip portfolio, doubling down where conviction is high and starting to branch into new territory.
Doubling Down on Ascended Heroes
We added 2 more Ascended Heroes Elite Trainer Boxes at $117.50 CAD each from a local store.
No need to go deep on the thesis again — we covered that in the first post, but with the current Ascended Heroes set value, this price point was a no-brainer.
That said, the window may already be closing.
ETBs are now pushing ~$200 CAD, which likely means our DCA opportunity is close to over unless we see:
-
a meaningful reprint, or
-
a broader market pullback
Neither feels imminent right now.
The good news: we’re sitting on 11 ETBs total, accumulated very close to the bottom.
Adding Premium Poster Collection Exposure (with Tradeoffs)
We also picked up 7 Ascended Heroes Premium Poster Collections
(4 Lucario, 3 Gardevoir) at an average of $120.70 CAD each.
Premium collections are usually a bit meh from a portfolio standpoint:
-
they take more space
-
they’re less liquid than ETBs
But given our conviction on Ascended Heroes, we still wanted some exposure here.
Prismatic Evolutions: Taking Advantage of Supply
We managed to secure:
-
7 Prismatic Evolutions ETBs at $160.94 CAD each (Walmart drop)
-
8 Prismatic bundles at $45.40 CAD each (Pokémon Center drop)
Prismatic is currently:
-
#1 Scarlet & Violet set by set value
-
Top 5 set of the last 12 years
This is one of those rare windows where supply is high because Pokémon is printing aggressively, and that’s exactly when we want to accumulate.
Strategy Note: Playing the Drop Cycle
If you keep missing retail drops, there’s an edge most people overlook:
👉 Watch the local market 24–72h after restocks
What usually happens:
-
flippers rush to sell
-
everyone undercuts each other
-
prices temporarily dip
If you look at price charts of sealed products, you can almost visually spot restocks without any announcement.
Entering One Piece (Bandai)
We’ve also started building a position in One Piece TCG.
First buys:
- 2x OP-15 Booster Boxes at $213.88 CAD each
Plan going forward:
- accumulate 2–4 booster boxes per set
The thesis is simple:
If you believe in the One Piece IP, Bandai’s TCG is a very strong long-term play.
What’s Next
In the next update, we’ll break down our Perfect Order purchases — a set that’s currently unloved, but where the data tells a very different story.
